The La Leona Waterfall hike takes about 2.5-3 hours in total. It is 1.5 miles each direction (4km in total). This gives you ample time to hike, explore, and enjoy the waterfall and its surroundings.

A reservation is required for all tours. 

No, you do not need to know how to swim for this hike. Since life jackets are required, swimming skills are not necessary. During the swimming sections there are ropes positioned so you can just pull yourself across and any areas without a rope you tour guide has a rope you can hold on to and they will pull you across that area.

Yes, our parking lot is monitored during all operating hours, so it is safe to leave your belongings in your vehicle for the duration of the tour.

We also have small lockers available as well. 

La Leona Waterfall is considered a moderate level hike. We do not recommend this hike for anyone with knee, ankle or mobility issues.

La Leona Waterfall is arguably the most beautiful waterfall in Costa Rica. This waterfall is fully enclosed in cave, pristine turquoise pools, and includes an adventure hike to reach the waterfall. This is a waterfall you don’t want to miss out on while in Costa Rica. 

The total driving time from Liberia to La Leona Waterfall is approximately 20 minutes, covering a distance of about 18 kilometers.

As you reach Liberia, join Route 1 heading north and drive for approximately 7.3 kilometers. Look for the right turn onto the road leading to Curubandé (Rincon de la Vieja National Park).
