La Fortuna to La Leona Waterfall by Car
If you are driving from La Fortuna to La Leona Waterfall, you must take route #142 to get to Nuevo Arenal- Tilaran and then Cañas. Once you make it to Cañas you must head straight and take the freeway #1 and head north toward Liberia Downtown.
Liberia to La Leona Waterfall
La Leona Waterfall is located near the city of Liberia, in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. To get to this destination from Liberia you must head north on highway #1 and make a right turn towards Rincón de la Vieja National Park (Curubandé Town).

La Fortuna to La Leona Waterfall by Bus
In order to get from La Fortuna to La Leona Waterfall you will need to take 3 buses, and it will take about 3.5 hours in total. This is a great option for solo traveler!
Terminal de Buses La Fortuna
You will begin your journey at the Terminal de Buses La Fortuna. The first bus you will take is Ciudad Quesada to Parada de Buses Tilaran. This bus costs about $2 USD and this bus runs 3 times a day.
Parada de Buses Tilaran
The second bus is the Tilaran bus. This bus goes from from Parada de Buses Tilaran to Terminal de Buses la Cañera, Cañas which is about $2 USD.
Terminal de Buses la Cañera, Cañas
The last bus you will take is the Cañas bus. This bus goes from the Terminal de Buses la Cañera, Cañas to Terminal De Buses Municipal De Liberia. This bus is about $4 USD and runs about every 30 minutes.
Terminal de Buses Municipal de Liberia
Once in Liberia you will arrive at the Terminal De Buses Municipal De Liberia. Here you can take a quick 20-minute detour to get to La Leona Waterfall. There are 2 different options for this detour. The first is that you can take a Taxi or Uber which will cost about $15-$20. The second option is to hop on the bus to Curubande. This option will take you a little bit longer, but the bus will take you straight from Liberia to the town of Curubande where La Leona Waterfall is located. This bus will say Curubande on the front of it.

El Salto is a must-see spot while in La Fortuna. Hidden under a bridge you will find a giant rope swing leading into La Fortuna river. You can swim into the pools below right next to a small waterfall. This free hidden gem offers an unforgettable experience in La Fortuna.
During the walk to El Salto you will also have an amazing view of all the greenery and Arenal Volcano. This view during sunset is one of a kind.
