Follow along as we show you what to expect on a private La Leona Waterfall and river tubing tour in Rincon de la Vieja.

Meet your personal guide and get ready with a dry bag and life jacket. Start your adventure with a short 4×4 ride to the trailhead, followed by a 10-minute walk to the riverbed.

Cross the Rio Blanco for the first of about five crossings and step into dense forest with moss-covered rocks and huge trees.

Hike along the Rio Blanco, climb over volcanic rocks and, with a little luck, spot wildlife along the way. The final section before reaching La Leona Waterfall is a highlight of the tour: swim through an impressive river canyon with turquoise water to enter the waterfall cave.

Admire the spectacular La Leona Waterfall, enjoy the natural pool and take some photos in these beautiful surroundings.

Another 4×4 ride and a short walk take you to the Colorado River. First, you’ll receive a safety briefing from your guides about how to use your equipment and position yourself in the rapids.

Time to get into the river! The first section is still calm, giving you time to practice paddling. Safety ropes across the river mark larger rapids ahead. Wait here until your guides are positioned in the rapid to lead your tube in the right direction and reduce the risk of falling out.

Splash through fun rapids and paddle through lazy river sections, surrounded by canyon walls and tropical forest.

At the end of the tour, it’s a short, easy walk up our stairs to your ride back.

The private La Leona Waterfall and Tubing combo tour is suitable for active kids ages 6 and up. A private tour is a great option if you’re traveling with young children, as your dedicated guide can provide more individual assistance throughout the hike and river tubing.

During river tubing, small kids are assigned a dedicated guide who holds onto their tube throughout the tour to reduce the risk of flipping or falling out. They also don’t need to use a paddle, as their guide gently pushes the tube through the calmer river sections, so they can simply relax and have fun.
