La Leona Waterfall is located near the city of Liberia, in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. To get to this destination you must head north on highway #1 and make a right turn towards Rincón de la Vieja National Park (Curubandé Town)

Where is La Leona Waterfall Costa Rica?

La Leona Waterfall is located in the town of Curubande which is outside of Liberia. Two rivers run through the town of Curubande, the Colorado River, and Rio Blanco. These rivers make the Curubandé village the perfect destination in Costa Rica, with waterfall tours, river tubing and plenty of secret swimming spots to cool off. 

How to Find the Watefall in Curubandé

Free Places to Visit Near La Leona Waterfall

La Pipa

La Pipa is a 15 minute walk from the office to La Leona Waterfall Cost Rica. Here you can swim in the fresh blue waters flowing from the waterfall, jump off rocs and hang out under mini waterfalls. 

To get here you will head down the road past the market for about 5-10 minutes. After you pass the stop sign you will see a gravel road on your right side. You will turn right down this gravel road and continue for another 5-10 minutes. You will then arrive at La Pipa, it will be on your left side. 

The Colorado River

The Colorado River is a 10 minute walk from the office to La Leona Waterfall. This is a calm place to relax in the water and hang out with your friends. 

To get here you will go down the road and when the road splits you will stay to the left. Afterr you pass the park you will see a gravel road on your left side. You will head down this road until you arrive at a stair case. You will go down these staircases until you arrive at the Colorado River.

Access to La Leona Waterfall is not free, as it involves traversing private property. Due to the trail’s complexity, the sole option for visiting is through a tour. Prices begin at $30 for a group tour, while a private tour is available at $45.

La Leona Waterfall is located 20 minutes away from downtown Liberia, covering a distance of around 15 km. The road is fully paved all the way to our reception.

La Leona Waterfall is about 10 meters (32 feet) high, situated in a stunning cave with amazing rock formations all around.

The minimum age for visiting La Leona Waterfall is 8 years old for group tours and 4 years old for private tour.

Baby carriers are not permitted during the La Leona Waterfall Tour. This policy is in place for the safety of both the child and the parent, as a slip or fall could lead to an accident.

For La Leona Waterfall you should wear either: Closed toe shoes, Water Shoes with a thick sole, or Sandals With Straps. Flip Flops are not allowed

A prior reservation is mandatory for visiting La Leona Waterfall. Without a reservation, and in the absence of available staff to conduct the tour upon your arrival, access to the falls will not be possible. Booking in advance allows us to efficiently plan and schedule for everyone in advance.
